Topic: Haskins Award Posted: May/20/2009 at 8:39pm |
The haskins award is an award given to the top college player, not including the previous summers amateur golf. I personally think it shows the best college golfer over the span of a year instead of the hogan award.
The nominees are:
Mike van sickle
Bud cauley
Billy horschel
John peterson
Rickie Fowler
Morgan hoffman
andrew putnam
trent leon
tom glissmeyer
matt hill
steve ziegler
hudson swafford
harris english
dustin garza
russell henley
brian harman
bronson burgoon
nick taylor
matt giles
cameron tringale
zach byrd
Who do you like??
My short list is:
Morgan Hoffman-OSU
Nick Taylor-Washington
Mike Van Sickle-Marquette
John Peterson-LSU
Matt Hill-NC State
Billy Horschel- Florida
Bud Cauley- Alabama
I like these 7 because of the great spring semesters they have all had.

I agree. The Haskins Award has been around for forty years and has always been considered golf's Heisman trophy. The Hogan award is nice, but is just as much "amateur golfer of the year" as collegiate golfer of the year. And the big thing is ..... the players themselves vote for the Haskins winner, not a small committee.
I would add Cameron Tringale and Matt Giles to your list of seven. Both have had good spring campaigns.

Your short list should include: Giles, Taylor, Hoffman and Hill. Your winner will most likely come from those four ...

I agree with Lance above. My pick would be Hill. What a great season he's had.

No one approaches the season that Hill has had.

I left Tringale off my short list - he should be on there ... and with Campillo and Van Sickle not playing in the finals that will hurt their chances.

Matt Hill will win the Haskins. You can't even compare anybody to the season he's had...even if he has a bad week (which I doubt he will), he still should win this award. His worst finish is something like 14th and he has 7 wins (big 4 challenge was 18 holes), and 6 this spring; that's unheard of.

Contgratulations to Matt Hill on his victory at the NCAAs from the Haskins Commission! 8 Wins including his regional and the NCAAs. Wow.
Kudos to Stanley for his second, Fowler for T3, Taylor for T9, and Hoffmann for T7 as well!
